Kin Migration:  Trust Wallet, MyKinWallet and the ERC-20 Swap

This article sets out important changes for legacy Kin accounts managed with Trust Wallet or MyKinWallet. It also contains updates on the ERC-20 Swap, Migration Guides and Community Support.

Trust Wallet Recovery Tool

Following the migration, all Trust Wallet users had to perform certain steps to access their migrated Kin.  Recently, Trust Wallet ceased supporting non-standard Solana addresses which affected users who still kept their Kin in a migrated wallet address.

If you were affected by this change and lost access to your migrated Kin Wallet, the Trust Wallet team has provided a Recovery Tool.  This tool will provide you your private key, so you can create a new Trust Wallet Account. 

Before using the tool,  it is strongly recommended you create a new wallet in either Trust Wallet or Phantom.  Do not leave your Kin in the wallet address you recover using this tool - transfer the Kin to a new Solana wallet address. 

Here are the steps:

1. Open the Kin Laboratory Tools
2. Scroll to “Convert Trust Wallet Stellar Kin to Solana”.
3. Enter your Mnemonic phrase from the Trust Wallet account where you lost access to your Kin.
4. Hit “Convert”.
5. The tool will convert your Mnemonic phrase into a private key.
6. In Trust Wallet, create a new wallet using this private key. You will now have recovered access to your migrated Kin.
7. Transfer the Kin from this wallet, to your new wallet.
   
   

MyKinWallet

MyKinWallet will no longer be supported after 1 January 2023.

If you use MyKinWallet as a paper wallet,  it is strongly recommended you transfer this Kin to a new Solana wallet by the end of the year.   After this time, if you have difficulties accessing your Kin,  you can use the ‘Convert Stellar Seed to Solana’ recovery tool in the Kin Laboratory to convert your stellar based private key into an updated format which will allow it to be imported into newer Solana wallets such as Phantom.  However in doing so, it is strongly recommended to transfer your Kin out of this wallet into a new Solana keypair - do not leave your Kin in the recovered address.

If you access MyKinWallet using a Ledger, after 1 January 2023 there will be no tools or recovery options available to access your Kin. While a tool is being explored,  it is strongly recommended you transfer this Kin to a new Solana wallet by the end of the year. Failure to do so may mean you will not be able to access your Kin until a new tool is available.  Kin can easily be managed with a Ledger by using Phantom or Solflare.  

ERC-20 Token Swap 

ERC-20 Kin is the original version of Kin that existed on the Ethereum Blockchain. FTX provided a service to swap ERC-20 Kin to the Kin on the Solana Blockchain which ceased upon FTX halting their business operations.  The Kin Community is looking for a new swap partner and will share an update at a later point in time when one is available.   As this service depends on the commitment of a third party to operate the service, no time frame can be given for the availability of the launch of a new token swap partner.
